Drumline privacy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
This policy covers the Drumline app for iPhone and iPad and drumlineapp.com, operated by John Ostler. It explains the information each uses, where it is stored, and your choices.
The Drumline app
You do not need a Drumline account to use the app. We do not run advertising, include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, sell personal information, or use it for cross-app advertising.
Microphone and audio
The drumhead tuner and stroke practice tools request microphone permission to detect pitch, strokes, timing, and audio levels. Analysis happens on your device. Drumline does not upload microphone audio to us.
Some stroke-analysis exercises create a temporary audio clip on your device for performance review. These clips are not sent to Drumline’s website or servers. You can revoke microphone access in device Settings; features requiring it will then be unavailable.
Saved work and imported media
The app saves settings, practice information, scores, and drill projects on your device. Charts can include audio, floor images, and performer photos you select. It uses those files for your projects and does not upload your photo library to us.
Write Notation uses your private iCloud storage through Apple CloudKit when available to sync your notation library across devices using your Apple account. This does not give us your Apple credentials or access to private scores. Charts projects are stored locally and do not automatically sync through this notation iCloud store.
You choose where exported PDF, PNG, .perc, and .drillbook files go using your device’s sharing tools. A .drillbook project can contain imported audio and images. Recipients can access what you share. Third-party storage and sharing services have their own privacy policies.
Apple services
Apple processes App Store purchases; we do not receive payment card details. When you use Game Center, Drumline can submit challenge scores to Apple’s leaderboards. Your profile and scores may be visible according to your Game Center settings. Apple also manages iCloud and any app diagnostics you choose to share through device settings.
These services are covered by Apple’s privacy policy. Manage iCloud, Game Center, microphone permissions, and diagnostic sharing in your Apple device settings.
Previous release-update signups
The website no longer accepts release-update signups. If you previously signed up, your email address, signup time, and consent notice version may remain in our Neon database until you request removal or we discontinue the list. These records do not include your app scores, projects, recordings, or Game Center data.
Support messages
When you use the support form, we use your name, reply email, message, and any device details you provide to respond. Resend delivers the message to our support inbox. Support requests do not subscribe you to release updates. Please leave passwords and payment details out of your message.
To limit spam, we store a hash of your network address that changes daily with hourly request counts in Neon, without storing your message there. Old counters are removed as new requests are processed after two days. Support correspondence is retained while needed to resolve your request and keep relevant service records.
Website hosting and cookies
Vercel hosts the website; Neon provides database storage. They process information needed to deliver, store, and protect the service, including technical request details such as IP address and browser information. They may process data outside your country under their applicable safeguards.
We do not add advertising cookies or advertising trackers. External links to Apple, NoiseFloor, and social sites lead to services with their own privacy policies.
Retention and your choices
Delete saved work within the app and manage exported copies yourself. Removing the app removes its local app data, subject to backups and copies you retain. iCloud copies and device backups are managed separately through Apple’s services.
We retain signup information until you withdraw consent, request removal, or we discontinue the list. Technical hosting information follows our providers’ operational retention policies. Information you send in a support request is used to respond and resolve it.
Where applicable, you may request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of information we hold, object to or restrict its use, and withdraw consent to release emails. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. Withdrawing signup consent does not affect use of the app.
Children
The app does not require an email address or Drumline account. The website does not currently collect release-update signups. A parent or guardian may request removal of a child’s previous signup information.
Contact and changes
For privacy questions or release-list removal, contact Drumline support. Include the email address related to a signup request. We may need to verify a request before changing or disclosing information.
We may update this policy as the app or website changes. The date above identifies the latest revision.
